The 115 islands that unify Seychelles are divided into two large groups. The 43 inner islands, 41 of them granitic and 2 coralline, concentrate almost the entire population, economy and tourism of the archipelago, especially in the 3 main islands: Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. The 72 outer islands are spread from 230 to 1,150 km from Mahé and only two of them, Alphonse and Desroches, have accommodation facilities.
The entire archipelago is a paradise for sustainable tourism, where the balance between exploitation and preservation brings countless benefits to visitors, residents and local species, such as giant turtles and sea coconuts. Although the vast majority of tourists visit only the main islands, the list of attractions is extensive and the peculiar characteristics of the secondary islands should not be ignored. Seychelles is much more than just a resort destination: many leave without realizing the real greatness of the archipelago.
