MALDIVES, TREASURE OF THE INDIC
The Maldives archipelago is made up of 1,192 islands that span an 871 km stretch, south of India and Sri Lanka. The islands are grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls. Officially, they do not belong to Africa but to Asia: as they are located in the Indian Ocean, also part of our destination portfolio. In addition to the exclusive resorts located in the isolated atolls, a gradual easing of the government is beginning to allow greater cultural contact in the capital Malé.
The unique geography of the Maldives is fascinating. Only 200 of the islands are inhabited: the most beautiful in each atolls are resorts and some are used for industry and agriculture. The beauty of the Maldives is not just above water: 5% of the planet's coral reefs are there and home to over a thousand species of fish. Attracted by the rich nutrients that flow with currents, large pelagic fish, such as manta rays and whale sharks, also live around corals.
Traditional destination for couples, families are also beginning to discover the treasures of the Maldives. The spectacular resorts and their luxurious bungalows overwater remain the main focus of attraction, but specific interests such as water sports, sailing, diving, surfing, traditional ceremonies, spiritual retreats and yoga practice also attract many visitors. Whatever your motivation, the exuberant nature and isolation of the Maldives will be forever remembered.
