Kigali, the capital and largest city in Rwanda, has been the country's economic, geographic, cultural and transport epicenter since independence in 1962. The city is home to the president's residence and ministries, as well as streams, valleys, lush hillsides, flourishing trees, busy avenues and winding streets. It is arguably one of the most attractive, clean and safe cities in Africa. Despite bearing the brunt of 1994 genocide horrors, Kigali has been the main power of Rwanda's reconstruction and modernization efforts.
Few leave Kigali unimpressed by the city's revival. The unmissable Genocide Memorial is a must-see and must be visited without haste. The KCC, Kigali Convention Center, is one of the most modern in Africa and points to the city's business vocation. A new international airport is under construction and promises to make the capital the main regional hub in central Africa. Kigali is an example not only for Africa, but for the whole world.
