Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay marks the beginning or end of the Garden Route and is one of its main cities. The first records of human occupation in the region date back to 162,000 years ago, but Mossel Bay's historical relevance goes beyond important archaeological discoveries. On February 3rd, 1488, after successfully circumnavigating for the first time the dreaded Cabo das Tormentas, Bartolomeu Dias landed exactly at Mossel Bay, named by him Aguada de São Brás.

Despite a certain lack of characterization caused by growth, Mossel Bay still preserves its peculiar charm, typical atmosphere and Bartolomeu Dias museum complex, dedicated to the history of the city and the great Portuguese navigations. The ascent to Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse has not only beautiful views: it is also the starting point of the homonymous trail and the zipline over the Indian Ocean (the longest in the world over the ocean). In addition to the good waves for surfers, you can also watch dolphins and whales in the bay.

Culture

Each region of Africa keeps alive the ancient traditions of its ancestors. Political borders do not define different ethnicities, each one with its own language, culture, art and history. In the last century, neocolonialism has created a traumatic clash of civilizations: in many cases, the African cultural heritage has merged with European traditions. The result has not always been positive, but it can be thoroughly investigated in each African destination.
