The legendary Bazaruto Archipelago National Park is located between the coastal cities of Vilanculos and Inhassoro. Formed by five main islands, Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Bangué and Santa Carolina, is protected as a national park since 1971. The archipelago has varied and abundant marine fauna, from whales to turtles and manta rays to the very rare dugong. Dolphins are also residents, as well as the flamingos that color the saltwater lagoons, interrupting the extensive sand.
More than 2,000 species of fish, an abundance of corals and turquoise waters make the region a diving paradise. Water sports (non-motorized), interaction with local culture and incredible Mozambican seafood cuisine increase the archipelago's charm and appeal.
