With 160 km in length, 27 km in maximum width and depth of 550 meters in places, Fish River Canyon is the largest in Africa. Partly located within Ai-Ais / Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, shared between Namibia and South Africa, the canyon attracts adventurers from around the world for the challenging 90 km trek along the riverbed. Starting at Hobas Camp and ending at Ai-Ais, the hike requires special permission that must be obtained in advance.
For those who prefer a quieter adventure, there are several viewpoints to contemplate the unforgettable views of the canyon in Hobas, mountains for climbing and natural hot springs in Ai-Ais resort. The canyon is the biggest attraction in the Karas region, the largest and most southerly in Namibia, which can be reached by self-drive from Windhoek or even from Cape Town.
