The Quirimbas archipelago consists of 28 islands and some atolls on the north coast of Mozambique, close to the gate city of Pemba and the border with Tanzania. The eleven most southerly islands and a considerable area of the inland coast to the north of Pemba are protected by the Quirimbas National Park, still precariously developed and untouched. Nature is unique and exuberant.
Ecotourism on the islands is strongly controlled and exclusive, offering an exotic combination of isolation, natural beauty, rustic luxury and a cultural fusion of Portuguese, Arab and African traditions. Some of the most exclusive resorts in Africa are found in the region and attract personalities from all over the world, who seek privacy, nature and "barefoot" sophistication.
