Chobe National Park, the most visited park in Botswana, is also the most accessible. Self-drive is possible, but in the rainy season it requires a robust 4x4. It is named after the beautiful Chobe River, which winds through the sandy plains in the north of Botswana and attracts a spectacular amount of wildlife to the region. Covering floodplains, swamps and forests, the park has four distinct geographical areas and ecosystems: Chobe Riverfront (Serondela), Ngwezumba Pans, Savute and Linyanti.
Chobe has one of the highest elephant densities in Africa and consistent populations of felines, antelopes and buffalos. Rhinos are rare, but are being reintroduced into the region. More than 500 species of birds complete the reputation for one of the best and most complete safari parks in Africa.
