Namibia's main attraction and one of Africa's most famous national parks, Etosha is home to 114 species of mammals and 340 species of birds that come together in its perennial and seasonal lakes or salt pans, formed during the rainy season. With 4 of the Big 5 (buffalos are not endemic in the region), the park has an excellent structure for the self-drive traveler.
The park's six camps have particular characteristics (Namutoni, for example, is an old German fort) and several accommodation options, ranging from basic camping to luxurious tents and chalets. The rare black rhino can be found in the west of the park, as well as several species of felines, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and elephants. Birding is also a highlight and Etosha plays a leading role in their migratory movements.
