The semi-desert region of Kalahari (or Kgalagadi) is one of the most sensitive ecosystems in Africa, and one of the largest conservation areas on the planet, covering territory of South Africa and Botswana. The most accessible section of the park, on the South African side, has wide temperature range and hostile conditions for wildlife, highly adapted to low rainfall.
The structure for self-drive safari is excellent, although some parts of the park are only accessible by 4x4 vehicles. Kalahari has a considerable population of felines, antelopes and meerkats, but the size and severe conditions of the park sometimes make it challenging to find the animals - explaining the presence of more experienced wildlife travelers.
