Although small in size, Lake Manyara National Park has enormous biological diversity. The park is a fraction of the formerly huge Tarangire - Manyara ecosystem, which also hosts wildebeest and zebra migratory movements - unfortunately reduced due to the territorial restrictions of modern days.
In the rainy season, about two thirds of its length is composed of an alkaline shallow lake, full of flamingos and pelicans. Like the lake itself, the birds eventually disappear in the dry season and give way to mammals: special mention to the lions of Manyara, famous for their ability to climb trees. Strategically located on the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit, close to Kilimanjaro and Arusha airports, Lake Manyara is also the gateway to other parks in the region.
