The Okavango Delta, which also covers the Moremi Game Reserve, is an exclusive and upmarket destination and offers one of the most unique safari experiences on the African continent. The famous delta in northwestern Botswana comprises permanent swamps and plains seasonally flooded by the waters of the Okavango River. It is one of the rare inland delta systems, where the river does not flow into a sea or ocean.
The heavy summer rains (January and February) in Angola spread over the course of the Okavango River over the next four months (March to June). The peak of the annual delta flooding occurs during the dry season in Botswana, from June to August, causing native plants and animals to synchronize their biological cycles with these seasonal rains and floods. It is a particular example of interaction between climatic, hydrological and biological processes.
