Roads are safe and very well signposted. There are excellent service stations equipped with convenience stores and fast food (some may not accept credit cards for fuel payments). The only major difficulty is the English (right) hand for those who are not used to it. If you communicate in English, like to travel by car, have satisfactory driving skills, adaptability and some travel experience, renting a car is the best way to travel in South Africa.
