The golden rule for any trip is to carry as few luggage as possible, having all what is essential for your comfort. It is a difficult equation, but normally we tend to carry (much) more luggage than necessary. Be economical when packing, consistent with the climate of your destination at the time of travel, and remember that travel in Africa, even luxury travel, has a lot to do with comfort and well-being. The majority of people will not pay attention to you or how you are dressed, except on high end luxury destinations that may have specific dress codes. Avoid flashy, brightly colored clothing for safari. Prefer simple and discreet clothes if you visit poorer or rural regions. Remember that Southern Africa is cold in winter, and even in summer evenings can be cool.
